The explorer program is started up every spring. This is for anyone ages 16-18 that is interested in becoming a firefighter, or would like to know what its like. There is usually a meeting sometime in April, and then you go through a few months of training. The training consists of going over the trucks, the equipment, the proper names and uses of each tool. Then you will move on to the PPE(Personal Protective Equipment) and SCBA (Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus). We will then take you through the steps of hooking up a fire hydrant and using the ladder truck. By the end of the program you will have a good idea of what it is like to be a volunteer firefighter. After Completing the program, you have the opportunity to join the fire department once you have reached the age of 18.
